The third edition of the WPL ended on March 15, 2025, with a nerve-wracking final match between the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals. Delhi Capitals won the toss and invited Mumbai Indians to bat first. MI had a terrible start and could not capitalize on the powerplay, scoring only 20 runs in 6 overs while losing both their openers. The South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp bowled a fantastic spell and kept the Mumbai batters quiet for the initial 8 overs. The experienced duo of Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur stabilized the Mumbai innings and added 89 runs for the third wicket in quick succession.

However, Mumbai soon started losing wickets in quick succession, and the team, which was cruising to 170 runs, could hardly reach 149 runs at the end of 20 overs. Chasing a target of 150 runs, Delhi Capitals had a shaky start after they lost both their openers, Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning, in the powerplay. The team could never stabilize,e and wickets kept falling in quick succession, with Annabel Sutherland, Jess Jonassen, Jemimah Rodriguez and Sarah Bryce losing their wickets one after the other, taking Delhi’s score to 83/6 at the end of the 13th over.

Marizzape Kapp provided a late surge but it was just a case of too little too late for the Capitals side and the team finally lost the match by 8 runs making it their third consecutive final defeat.
