Ajit Agarkar Reveals the reason behind dropping Rinku Singh from T20 World Cup Squad

Rinku Singh has been an integral player for Team India during the past couple of months. The Uttar Pradesh middle-order batsman has earned his place as a finisher in the national side. Hence when he was dropped from the T20 side that will travel to the USA, it came as a shock for everyone. There were several reactions from fans and experts who were stunned to see this decision from selectors. However, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Indian captain Rohit Sharma gave the reason behind dropping Rinku from the squad. Rohit Sharma wanted to travel with an extra spinner for the World Cup which hindered the World Cup chances of Rinku Singh.

Rinku Singh Exclusion was the Toughest Decision – Ajit Agarkar

Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma held a press conference in Mumbai which was their first after the World Cup squad announcement. Ajit Agarkar explained the reason behind dropping Rinku Singh. He stated “Rinku Singh’s exclusion was the toughest decision. It’s got nothing to do with Rinku. We felt Rohit could have an extra spin option with two wrist spinners. He is in the reserves so that’s how close he was”

Apparently, pitches in the USA and West Indies are expected to be on the slower side and hence Rohit Sharma wanted to travel with an extra spinner to the World Cup.

Rinku who is still in the reserves can make the team if there is some injury to a main player in the squad. In an interview yesterday Rinku’s father opened up about the non-selection of the star Indian batsman. He stated that the KKR middle-order batter was heartbroken upon learning that he was not selected for the main 15-member squad. All the teams can make changes to their 15-member roster till the 25th of May.

Rishabh Pant also returned to the national side after a gap of 15 months recovering from a near-death injury.
